enjoy responsibly

the ATDP experience.

it has now been a little over a month since ATDP ended at UC Berkeley, and a little reflection would not hurt. as a student for only the second time, ATDP once more offered a positive environment, in which I was able to learn a new subject, while also creating new friends and interests. a month later, things have not changed, as today's social environment allows us to keep in touch and talk to another easily. thanks to all in ATDP who have given me this opportunity to thrive.

The time has come...

for school to start once more. The heavily anticipated summer came, and is not about to leave, with many memories once more. It began with my course at ATDP, which will definitely go down in history as one of my favorite courses ever taken, simply because my interest was so much. It was immediately followed by my trip to India on July 25th, to visit my ailing grandfather, who took much enjoyment in seeing me once more. The last two weeks have been enjoyable as well, as one of my passionate hobbies, Band, had started up on August 13th for the annual Band Camp, to get the band in shape for the upcoming school year.

This years show is based on Gordon Goodwin's Jazz and is no doubt going to be exciting. For those who read this, we will be playing at Stanford on the 28th of August, a nationally televised game on ESPN2. Who knows you might see me on TV? But with all this, comes some new responsibilities and tough tasks, that I am going to be happy to take up. After 3 years of service to band, starting as a newbie percussionist in 9th grade, I am happy to announce that this year I am a Percussion Captain and lead my section for the majority of time. This is a very special moment, because four years ago, no one, including myself or my parents could have imagined I would have come this far. The question always loomed, "Does all this work get recognized?", and I think for the first time, my work and effort have been recognized and I am very happy. I think this will also have an equally great effect on my future. Managing 12 kids under me, and being a responsible role model is a job that will lay the initial steps to the future in management I seek. At this time, another big thing comes around, and that is college.

College Apps are one of the most dreaded things, Seniors can imagine, and I think I am about to begin my journey through that walk. Initial views, seem enjoyable. The questions seem great, and pretty down to earth, but once must always be alert on what is truly being asked. I am looking for guidance on this matter, and I think in the upcoming weeks when I fully begin to work, I will go out there and ask those who can truly help me succeed in this matter.

Other than this post, nothing more has happened in the past month for me. Life has been busy, and I have neglected this blog, as this is my first post in a month (no joke) lol, but as this school year begins that hoepfully might not change. I have put in some rules to put my laptop away, and minimize on facebook, aim, and socializing in general as it drastically reduces my time management and efficiency, skills I have not been able to gain in the past three years, but I believe these new rules just might solve that issue. Look to post more here, and thanks for reading. Comments are always encouraged.

Stopping by today....

got some website work to do today for berkeley, so today blog post is going to be quick and no deep thinking. recently in the news, barack obamas been visiting the middle east, particularly iraq and afghanistan where us soldiers are stationed. this whole trip is based on mccains suggestion that obama visit the country and find out the truths about the war rather than the stuff coming on media networks. so obama being openminded took it to mind, and took back his original statements on removing troops from iraq until he sees what the real situation is like. however theres one problem now....

iraqs president thinks barack obamas 16 month withdrawal is great, so basically hes indirectly tell our nation to get out, and according to talks that were "constructive" iraq continues or believes america should start withdrawing by 2010 at the latest. these statements in my head reflect obama's original views on pulling out troops, and i find it equally ironic that these statements are contrary to mccains strongest point, foreign policy and this war. does mccain have anything to run his campaign on if obama just brings up the fact that the iraqi's have only showed support for the US leaving. he has little knowledge on the economy, and a terrible view on healthcare. if anything his environmental view is similar to that of obama's. how else can he differentiate himself?

i wouldn't mind for those who read, whomever you may support to comment and start a conversation.

The week ahead...

Being a guy who is constantly in love with technology the upcoming week holds some great things in mind, yet little is known about the event I am talking about. So why not share your view, when whatever being shown is a surprise? I'm talking about facebook's developers conference in San francisco this year, called F8, where they announced facebook apps one year ago. So this year, should likely live up to the hype, and being secretive little is known, so I conjured up some ideas.

1. Unveil facebook connect - this is facebook's way of letting users share information from sites such as digg and myspace on facebook, so data is seamlessly transferred between these various networks. this should be great for some people, but I don't see myslef using it too much.

2. Communications - Facebook will unveil a full-on Chat client for both Windows and Mac OS, really shaking up the IM industry. Being a strong web-based browser im already, many are waiting for additional features, as well as a desktop version. this would really make F8 as good as last year. Another feature would be to receive emails for Yahoo!, Live, and gmail in the inbox, allowing facebook to be a true social hub, where one can get email/im/social network.

3. Mobile - Facebook on mobile is already intense with the iPhone leading the way, but there are some improvements that can be done. iPhone version doesnt allow profiles to be viewed, and geo-mapping features can make facebook on mobile dominating. Mobile is really quite a huge platform and I think facebook is deeply interested in conquering it.

These three things I believe will be shown at F8 this year. If all are shown, I would be satisfied, but the Communications one i think is the greatest one of all.

In other news, this past week, my iPhone still hasn't arrived leaving me extremely disappointed. thought att said 3 to 5 days, it has now been 8 days and i'm not the only one complaining, so im still waiting and refreshing the website. My final week at ATDP is the one that is upcoming and im a bit sad. I've learned alot of new stuff, and made many new friends, both staff and students. I've got one final site to develop, and I think its going to be interesting to make. Thank god facebook and IM are available to keep in touch after just 6 weeks and 18 classes.
